ANDY GASPARINI

Andy is double majoring in History and Political Science and also earning a minor in Spanish Studies. During his time in high school, Andy attended an international studies magnet program that provided several opportunities to travel and learn about different cultures and histories. He later studied abroad and completed an internship at The Workshop in Belgrade, Serbia. His time in foreign countries instilled the desire to be a global citizen, rather than an American studying the globe. In the pursuit of this goal, he has served as the chair for Clemson University’s Model United Nations’s Security Council for the past two years, established the Clemson Diplomacy Club, and is writing a thesis comparing the transgender communities in India and Iran.

Austin Schlueter is a senior Political Science Major and History Minor from Atlanta, Georgia. As part of his education, Austin spent a semester in Belgrade, Serbia and studied international relations and Balkan politics with his Belgrade roommate: fellow staff writer and current Editor-in-Chief Andy Gasparini. An active member of Clemson’s international relations community, he joined The Pendulum in the Fall of 2016 as a Staff Writer and served his first term as Associate Editor-in-Chief in the Fall of 2018. He took a leave of absence from The Pendulum during the first half of 2019 to pursue internships away from Clemson. Austin’s research interests include Eastern European Politics and Weapons Proliferation.

Rachel Clyburn is a senior Sociology student with minors in Political Science and French from Charleston, SC. She has been working with The Pendulum for the past two years as a writer, then as the Asia and Oceania Desk Editor, and now as the Copy and Website editor. While her interest in foreign policy and international relations was initially sparked on a visit to France in high school, it truly developed while participating in the Dixon Global Policy Program, where she was able to travel to France and Germany and dive into international policy and politics. In addition to The Pendulum, Rachel is also involved with Clemson's Model United Nations team. Her research interests include U.S. foreign policy, specifically looking at gender and women's issues.

Aynsley is a Bioengineering major with minors in biological sciences and global politics from Memphis, Tennessee. She became interested in international affairs in high school as a member of the Model United Nations club, and she has pursued this interest at Clemson by first writing for The Pendulum and then joining the team as a staff member. Throughout her time at Clemson, she has completed a summer abroad program in Dublin, Ireland and a semester-long program in Copenhagen, Denmark. For Aynsley, both programs further established the importance of understanding global politics and keeping up with current events around the world, regardless of students' majors. Combining her love for travel, writing, and research, The Pendulum is a perfect platform for Aynsley to help Clemson students become more competent global citizens.

Jade is a sophomore Criminal Justice major from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and because she has always had an interest in politics and international affairs, is also pursuing minors in both Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science. Jade joined The Pendulum’s staff as a reader who wanted to get involved and learn more about the process. She is excited to work with the other members of the staff as well as writers for the magazine.

Mims has moved around a lot in her life and was homeschooled in high school, so she always had opportunities to travel. This sparked her interest in traveling and made her cognizant of the ways in which different countries interact with each other. Traveling a lot while growing up, she was introduced to many different cultures and overtime developed an interest in international relations. She has also always had a passion for graphic design and anything art, really, so when she discovered the Layout Editor position opening at The Pendulum after transferring to Clemson University from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she knew that she had to become a part of it.

Olivia is a senior student from Atlanta, Georgia earning a Math major and a Global Politics minor. She became interested in international politics while spending a semester in Belgrade, Serbia during her freshman year. She quickly returned abroad for a semester in Nicosia, Cyprus. Studying abroad in these two places provided her a unique perspective on modern history and politics. The Pendulum has allowed her to contextualize her Clemson education and gain a deeper understanding of the world.

Nate is a junior Biochemistry & Genetics major from Columbia, South Carolina. During his freshman year at Clemson, Nate realized his interest in international issues after taking a course on the history of South Africa, which led to an eventual summer study abroad near Cape Town. He enjoys writing for The Pendulum as a way to continue cultivating his writing abilities and shaping his perspective on global affairs. As a busy researcher on campus, he’s also thankful that The Pendulum offers him a creative outlet and break from science.

Ashley is a senior Political Science major, concentrating in Global Affairs and minoring in Legal Studies. She spent her summer in Washington, D.C., interning with The New York Times, and she has been a part of The Pendulum since her freshman year at Clemson--writing articles for both print and online editions. Ashley enjoys working with The Pendulum because it allows her to express her creative writing side, and it allows stories from around the world to be highlighted without exception. Ashley’s time in Washington showed her the necessity of global knowledge, and The Pendulum gives a platform for those stories to be told.

Tyler McDougald is a junior English and History double major from Greenville, South Carolina. He first became involved with The Pendulum as a Staff Writer for the Spring 2019 issue, writing about the effect that religious extremism has had on sexual and gender minorities around the globe, and now serves as our Society, Culture, and Economics Desk Editor. In addition to the magazine, Tyler is involved with CUSG Senate, Rainbow Fellowship, and Clemson's Literature Festival.
